PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Businesses lose out on revenue from food that must be disposed of because it has spoiled or will spoil soon. Individual consumers may be interested in discounted food for both environmental and economic reasons. Tasty Saves helps grocery stores reduce food waste by offering discounted products nearing expiration, benefiting both businesses and environmentally-conscious consumers. It's a win-win solution for combating food waste and promoting sustainability.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

According to the US Department of Agriculture(USDA), food waste is estimated at between 30-40 percent of the food supply.

high-quality food, suitable for families or those in need, is discarded in landfills. There should be a simpler method for individuals to access food before it spoils.

PROJECT GOAL

  1. Reduce food waste in America and provide fresh foods to users

  2. Partner with grocery stores and track the shipment date as well as its shelf life up to its expiration date.

  3. Provide consumers with more economical food options.

MARKET RESEARCH

To understand target users better, we wanted to determine the pain points and needs from the user’s perspective. So, we combined all these user types based on the interview into three main provisional personas, Jordan Skylar and Brianna.

SWOT ANALYSIS

Strengths

  • Easy tracking of inventory through existing systems with little effort for partnering businesses

  • Easy use for consumers with push notifications, filtering, saved searches, and updates on inventory and orders

  • Few competitors and limited technological use in this space

Weaknesses

  • Social perceptions against buying items on sale or clearance due to date of expiry

  • More research is needed into the technologies various partnering organizations might use to facilitate ease of adoption and usage

Opportunities

  • Potential to increase revenue over time

  • Potential to add to products available over time (toiletries, cleaning goods, artisanal products, delivery)

  • Potential to have social features (reviews of stores or products, recipes, etc.) 

Threats

  • Existing competitors are well-established

  • Gaining partners may prove difficult

USER PERSONAS

WIREFRAME

For the wireframe, we considered there are two different user groups which are partners and shoppers. The wireframe has two different versions so that the two different user groups can conveniently use our service.

 

VISUAL / INTERACTION DESIGN

Once the final low-fidelity wireframe was completed, we started to visualize those ideas into the design. We aimed to create bright and fresh-themed visuals so that we could demonstrate the food's freshness to all the users.
